Heart Saver First Aid Course

Description

The Heartsaver® First Aid course provides essential training in basic first aid procedures, enabling participants to recognize and respond effectively to medical emergencies in the critical first minutes before Emergency Medical Services (EMS) arrive.

This course is ideal for individuals with no formal medical background who are required or desire to be trained in first aid response for work, school, or personal preparedness.

Certification Includes:

  • AHA Heartsaver® First Aid e-Manual
  • Official AHA e-Card and digital certificate
  • Certification valid for two years

Course Information

  • Duration: 8 Hours
Participants are introduced to key skills and knowledge through engaging instruction and hands-on practice. The curriculum covers:

  • First Aid Basics
  • Medical Emergencies
  • Injury Emergencies
  • Environmental Emergencies
  • Opioid-Associated Life-Threatening Emergencies
  • Preventing Illness and Injury

Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to:

    • List the priorities, roles, and responsibilities of a first aid rescuer
    • Describe the key steps in administering first aid
    • Safely remove protective gloves
    • Assess the situation and identify the problem
    • Recognize and respond to life-threatening conditions including:
      • Heart attack
      • Difficulty breathing
      • Choking (adults, children, infants)
      • Severe bleeding
      • Shock
      • Stroke
    • Use an epinephrine auto-injector (EpiPen)
    • Apply techniques for bleeding control and bandaging
    • Identify signs and appropriate responses to common injuries and illnesses
    • Access reliable resources for illness and injury prevention
    • Understand legal considerations for first aid providers
