Emergency Medical Technician

Description

This is a professional career certificate programme. The curriculum provides for an early and continuing emphasis on patient care and assessment, as well as reinforcement of the basic sequence of emergency medical care procedures. 

 

The ideal EMS student should be one who is:

Notes

  • EMT Pre-requisites: Minimum four (4) CSEC passes, High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Successful students will be eligible to challenge the USA National Registry of EMT’s (See "Exam Information" tab below).
  • Certification: Valid for two years. A forty-hour (40) refresher course is required every two years

  • Duration: 300 Hours over a 7 Month Schedule

  • Minimum four (4) CSEC passes, High School Diploma or equivalent  

Additional Requirements 


Personnel must have good oral, comprehension and communication skills in addition to the following: 

  • Must be a minimum of 18 years of age 
  • Provide two passport size photos (any color background) 
  • Police certificate of character 
  • MMR, hepatitis B immunization, tetanus, T.B. testing  
  • Must be able to perform duties of an EMT including lifting and moving  patients 
  • May not have physical or psychological dependence to any substance other than those recognized as therapeutic treatments for valid medical conditions for which they are currently under the care of a physician.

  • Reliable device (tablet or computer) 
  • Computer microphone & webcam for classroom discussions 
  • Minimal distraction at home or work 
  • Be disciplined 
  • Manage time efficiently

Exams comprise of multiple-choice questions, practical skill stations and final written exams. A minimum overall passing score of 75% is required for successful course completion. 

 

International exam 


Successful students will be eligible to challenge the USA National Registry of EMT’s and obtain this prestigious certification. 

Testing and certification by the NREMT is the standard that is legally accepted for licensure and certification in over forty-six states in the U.S.A, for credentialing EMS providers (EMR, EMT, AEMT and Paramedic). 

The N.R.E.M.T holds accreditation from The National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA), which is the accreditation arm of The National Organization for Competency Assurance (NOCA). The NCCA is recognized as the authority on accreditation standards for professional certification organizations and programs. 

The exam cost is U.S. $110.00 per attempt at the EMT level. This fee is paid directly to the NREMT
